At the Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital, we take pride in providing you information that you need in order to make your stay with us a pleasant and hassle-free experience.

If there is any further information that you or your family require regarding our hospital and our services, please feel free to contact us.

Accommodation
Accommodation at our hospital is extensive and includes:

    * Day beds
    * General wards
    * High care units
    * Intensive care units 
    * Special nursing wards

We also offer TVs in all of our wards.

Admission
Our admission process can be made much easier for you, if the following simple guidelines are followed.

    * Medical aid patients should check with their medical aid / scheme prior to admission to obtain pre-authorisation, if deemed necessary by the medical aid / scheme.
    * Patients have to present their medical aid card and identity document on admission. Persons under the age of 18 have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
    * To speed up admission, a pre-admission form is available from the resident doctor`s rooms and the hospital`s reception. Phone number 011 796 6611/6771.

Discharge
On leaving, do not forget to collect your medication and x-rays. You will be given a discharge card to hand in at the reception desk in the foyer as you leave.

Maternity
The Ward
A service is offered in the ward to register your baby: you will be notified when the certificate is ready for collection.
Birth Registrations: Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays

Baby Clinic
The sister from the baby clinic visits the ward three days a week for immunization. (Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays)
A nominal fee will be charged for BCG and polio drops.
Please do a follow up visit at her baby clinic.

Photographs
This service is available on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday at a nominal fee.

Discharge
On day of discharge please bring a car seat or carry cot to take baby home in. Please ensure that you know how to use the car seat.

Pre admissions clinic
It is very important to pay a visit to our Pre Admission Clinic 48 hours prior to admission into hospital.

The Pre-Admission Clinic is open on weekdays from 07h30 - 16h00 for all your pre-hospitalisation questions and admission requirements – Phone number 011 796 6611/6771.

    * Medical aid patients should check with their medical aid / scheme prior to admission to obtain pre-authorisation, it remains the patient’s responsibility to obtain the authorization number.
    * Please refer to your medical aid for any co payments you may be required to pay upfront.
    * Patients have to present their medical aid card and identity document on admission. Persons under the age of 18 have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
    * For any other queries please feel free to contact our Pre Admissions Clinic.

The post natal ward consists of:

    * Two X four bedded rooms
    * Two X three bedded rooms
    * Six X private rooms/with own bathroom

The private and semi private rooms are available on a “first come first serve basis”. Please keep your beautiful flowers and gifts to a minimum: you will appreciate them much more at home.

Labour Ward:

    * Your labour will be progressed in the room you will deliver in.
    * Pain relief will be administered according to your preference.
    * Feel free to bring your birthing plan along.
    * Please feel free to bring along CD player, books or games to keep you occupied.
    * Facilities for water births are not available.

The Nursery
Our ward policy is “rooming-in” which means you will learn to handle your baby with confidence in different circumstances.
It encourages bonding.
You are more comfortable with breast feeding.

First night in Hospital:
All babies are taken to the nursery, as mothers are exhausted and you may not hear your baby cry.
NB: your baby will be brought to you for breastfeeding if requested by you.

Public Relations Officer (PRO)
Our public relations officer serves as a link between the hospital, patients, doctors and staff. Should you need any assistance please contact the officer at the reception desk of our hospital. If you are from out of town, the PRO and reception desk has a list of accommodation near the hospital for family members.

Service monitoring
In keeping with our goal to continue providing high quality care` we monitor our service to patients on an ongoing basis. On discharge patients are asked to complete a questionnaire regarding their stay at the hospital. Participation is voluntary, but this will assist the hospital management to address any problems and improve our service to you.

Tariffs

    * Our hospital charges patients at medical aid / medical scheme rates.
    * A prepayment is required on hospitalisation, from patients not covered by medical aid or a medical scheme.
    * It is recommended that private patients contact the hospital`s accounts department prior to admission to establish the estimated hospital cost.
    * Patients requesting accommodation in private wards will be requested to pay the private ward rate on admission.

Visitor Information
We welcome all of our patients’ visitors, as we know what a difference the support of close family and friends can make.

In light of this, we also have to be aware of the rest that all of our patients require and we have thus provided for visitors to visit our hospitals only at certain designated times and these are:

General wards:

    * 15h00 – 16h00
    * 19h00 – 20h00
    * 11h00 – 12h00 Sundays and Public Holidays

Maternity:

    * 07h00 – 20h00 Fathers
    * 15h00 – 16h00 All visitors
    * 19h00 – 20h00 All visitors

ICU:

    * 11h00 – 11h30
    * 15h00 – 16h00
    * 19h15 – 20h00

PICU:

    * Parents Anytime
      Except 06h45 – 07h15 & 18h45 – 19h15

      Grandparents - 10mins only
    * 15h00 – 16h00
    * 19h45 – 20h00

Further to this, other rules apply with respect to visitors and these are:

    * Visitors are restricted to two per patient at a time.
    * Children are welcome but they must have an adult supervising them.

Ek lees al die klagtes hier onder en is geskok, ek was Sondag 21 Maart by jul ongevalle met 'n vieslike sny in my kop en 'n chip weg in my skedel na 'n braai deksel op my kop geval het en jul diens voor by ontvangs was uitstekend sowel as die hulp vanaf die dokter en sisters. Ek was binne 'n kwessie van 'n 30 min in en weer uit oppad huis toe! Ek is 'n ongeluks vol so kom baie in hospitale se ongevalle en kan met eerlikheid se dat Wilgeheuwel se Ongevalle uitstekend is! Dis sleg om te hoor dat ander mense so slegte ervaring gehad het, maar mense moet verstaan ongevalle is nie 'n gemakzone nie, daar is erge gevalle wat voorkeur moet geniet bo minder erge gevalle. En die dokters werk lang aanhoudende ure met amper geen tot geen breuke tussen pasiente nie, so 'n bietjie rustigheid en verstaan vir hul posisie sal jou ver bring, en tog niemand keer enige pasiente om uit te loop en na 'n ander hospitaal te gaan as hul wil nie. Ek bedank baie graag Dr. Daphni en die wonderlike sister wat my gehelp het.

Ek was op die 24ste Desember opgeneem met 'n baklteriese infeksie in my onderbeen wat in sellulitis ontaard het. My wbc was 298 (normaalweg 8 - 11). In ongevalle was ek deur drs. Goosen en toe later Ballantine behandel wat my op drup laat inboek het. Op Woensdag die 30ste Desember toe ontslaan Ballantine my met 3 dae se antibiotika in die hand en 'n bloedrooi opgeswelde been en se hy dink als is reg. Ons het die rekords later bekom en gesien dat op daai dag, my wbc nog 120 was ! Maandag die 4de Januarie is ek toe weer terug met lelike swart absesse op my been. In ongevalle gele van 10-uur totdat Dr. Hameed opgedaag het om 15-uur. Hy stoot my toe dadelik operasie tafel toe en opereer die been. Saterdag die 9de stoor hulle my weer in vir verdere operasies wat nog absesse gevorm het. Dis nou al 10 weke later en daaagliks moet ek nog 'n wond suster sien om die wonde te probeer genees. Ek glo my aanvanklike ontslag deur Dr. Ballantine was as gevolg van absolute nalatigheid en wil die saak verder voer. Ek gaan nie eers begin deur te praat van die versorging deur die susters nie, want dit sal nog 'n opstel behels ... onder andere 2 x verdere bakteriese infeksies in hospitaal opgedoen, asook medisyne wat nie toegedien was nie.

Ons het onlangs ook ''n slegte ondervinding gehad by julle ongevalle. Ons dogter van 7 jaar het in ''n groot doring getrap. Ons huisdokter het na die voet gekyk en hy het gevoel dit moet onder narkose gedoen word aangesien die doring taamlik diep in haar voet afgebreek was. Ons is toe ongevalle toe op saterdag oggend. Die dokter het haar gestuur vir ''n sonar en die sonar het gewys dat daar ''n stukkie doring in haar voet is van 2mm, dit was vir my snaaks aangesien ek goed kon voel dat die doring baie groter is, maar wie is ek, dus glo mens so ''n dokter. Die dokter in ongevalle het toe besluit hy gaan dit self probeer uithaal! Na seker als te saam amper ''n halfuur het hy ophou soek en grawe in haar voet, wat sy eintlik heel tyd gevoel het! Hy het haar voet ingespuit sonder om die vel eers met salf te verdoof, ons moes haar vas hou dat sy nie weg ruk van die pyn nie. In elk geval toe hy nou besef hy kry niks bel hy die Ortopeed aan diens en hulle besluit toe daar is genoeg gekarring vir een dag, sy moet maar steke kry en gips om en dan moet sy maandag terug kom. So maandag oggend is ons terug hospitaal toe, waar sy toe opgeneem word en laat die middag tog teater toe is. Toe sy uitkom kon die dokter nog steeds nie met sekerheid se dat die doring uit is nie. SY is met steke, krukke en antibiotika na ''n nag huis toe. Eers het als mooi gelyk maar na ''n week het haar voet ordentlik begin sweer. Ons het toe self die steke uitgehaal en elke dag goed skoon gehou. Daar het baie etter uitgekom dus daar het ek al begin dink, hier kom die doring. Gister middag het ek ''n doring van nie minder nie as ''n hele 2cm lang uit haar voet gehaal!!!!!!!!! Die dokter kon dit nie kry nie!!!! Die sonar het 2mm gesien, dis reg, dis die dikte van die doring!! My kind het gehuil van blydskap dat die doring uit eindelik uit is, en na alles was al die drama nie nodig nie. Die ongevalle dokter moes glad nie aan haar voet gesny het nie, dit was onnodig en traumaties!!! Ons moes haar sien ly en sy het nou ''n groot vrees vir ''n dokter. En die ergste van als is dit het ons daardie oggend, saterdag alleen R1 900,00 gekos!!!! Ons is baie ontevrede. 079 681 0233

Ek wil graag net onder julle aandag brind dat julle ongevalle seker van die powerste is wat ek nog beleef het. Die ontvangs is flink en baie behulpsaam, maar sodra jy deur die deure beweeg het waar hulle die pasiente behandel is dit uiters pateties!!!! Ek het my man die 31ste Jan daar gehad. Hy is 'n CIDP leier. Dr Rademan het vir hom 'n IV Fistel ingesit vir die vergemakliking vir sy bloedoortapping. Hy het die Saterdagaand biae sleg begin voel en uit 14jaar se ondervinding weet ek om nie met hom kanse te vat nie. Hulle het hom op die bed laat l en sy bloeddruk geneem. Sy bloeddruk was baie hoog. Hy het presies een en 'n half uur gewag voordat die dokter by hom aangekom het. Ek moet weereens s die dokter se kennis was power om die minste daarvan te s. Ek het aan hom verduidelik wat se siekte my man het asook aan hom verduidelik wat 'n IV Fistel is. Ek het hom gevra om asseblief spesialis te kontak wat vir Dr Rademan instaan my hy wou nie. Hy het my man met keel en oor infeksie gediagnoseer en ges die bloeddruk kan wees van 'n emosionele aard. Hoe meer ek vir hom vertel dat CIDP sy bloeddruk so laat styg en met rukke weer laat val hoe meer se hy dit is nie so nie. Ek moet ook vir jou se almal rondom ons was met min of meer dieselfde gediagnoseer en het hy vir almal vertel hulle moet nie hulle ore skoonmaak met oorpluisies nie. Hulle het hom 'n drup gegee en 02:00 die oggend is ek met hom huistoe. Die Sondag is ek met hom deur na Milpark se ongevalle en die dokter was glad nie tevrede met sy toestand nie. Moet se hy het ook dadelik geweet hoe om te toets in sy geval met CIDP en het dadelik sy Neuroloog gebel, en hy het gese dat hulle sy bloedruk gestabiliseer moet kry. Dit is baie belangrik en dat die Fistel wel ook 'n invloed op hom kan he. Ek moet bieg. Ek het 'n vorige keer my dogter ook na julle ongevalle geneem en ook sulke patetiese diens ontvang. Glo my ek sal nie weer daardie fout maak nie!! en ek sal dit ook aan almal vertel wat ek ken om nooit hulle tyd daar te mors nie. Ek wonder net as iemand 'n hartaanval gekry het en die dokter van een en 'n half uur voordat hy by hom uitkom wat gebeur dan? Byvoorbaat Dankie Elize van der Merwe 082 493 8044
