The St Laurence’s Children’s Haven was founded in January 2002 under the Auspices of the Roodepoort Child and Family Welfare Society. The Haven is a non profit NGO, In December of 2005 a decision was taken by the Committee due to the amount of children that was referred to the Haven to open another house and use it as a foster care facility. The Haven has 21 children aged between 2 and 16 years, there is also a family assistance and weekend/holiday program that makes the numbers grow to between 21 to 25 children over weekends and holidays. The Haven has been looking at starting a 3rd house since December 2006 and the 3rd house was officially open in March 2008, due to the demand of children in need. The intake numbers varies from time to time, the children are placed by the Child and Family Welfare either into place of safety or foster care at the Haven. The SAPS Child protection unit also places emergency cases with the home until the court dates can be set up. The financial strain on the Haven has increased substantially with the opening of the 3rd House And any assistance would be greatly appreciated. To provide, ABUSED, DISTRESSED, ORPHANED CHILDREN with excellent spiritual, emotional and physical care in a relaxed home environment, where every child has the opportunity to grow to it’s full potential; because they experience stability, security and love. To emphasize individual care and optimal stimulation, emotional and material support. To make a positive difference in the lives of abused children, changing their circumstances for the better and giving them a future. To mobilize staff, volunteers and donors to make a positive contribution to the lives of these children.
