The Northcliff Organic Market now services our area with wholesome, sustainable and crafted goods. Judging from the pictures, this is no longer the preserve of hippies in tie-dye (although there is still, thankfully, some of that). Clare tells us, "Northcliff Organic Market is Northcliff’s original outdoor market. Visitors enter an environment where the emphasis is on quality hand crafted goods, unique South African art and photography, clothing locally made from natural fibres, wholesome foods and of course, fresh organic and naturally grown produce. "You can relax and listen to soft live music or join in the drum circle while eating delicious, freshly prepared cakes and muffins, organic coffee and herb teas. Come for the weeks latest workshops which will range to talks on how to be more conveniently eco-friendly, tips on how to grow your own fresh organic vegetables and herbs. Learn how to do Mosaic, and many other wonderful arty attributes. Bring the children and the animals, for some fun in the sun. Activities will include egg races, face painting, yoga for kids, a painting corner and kite flying. There will be professional child minders on duty for extra peace of mind while you enjoy the market and what it has to offer helping you and Northcliff go green. Northcliff Organic Market is to be committed to the ideals of wholeness and eco friendly living. The Market and Operations "The opening day was on the Saturday 5th September 2009 and runs every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 9am-2pm. We also have a guest speaker Melanie Papaioannou from Lovelicious on the 1st Saturday every month from 10am.
We plan to have a tree planting ceremonies every week as well as new and creative vendors displaying their organic and eco-friendly talents and products. Ideally this market will be geared towards organic living on a holistic scale. We have arranged large recycling bins for paper, glass and plastic to be delivered to the site, making this a drop off point for the surrounding areas, creating awareness about the importance of re-cycling. The Organisation "Aims for planetary repair, bringing the community together, keeping Northcliff beautiful and offering Johannesburg something great to do while lessoning Gauteng’s Carbon Footprint for South Africa and the rest of the world."
