COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Meetings are well attended by residents. Commitment and participation remains the back bone of our efforts if we are to move forward in a purposeful and meaningful way. Our canvassing efforts from door-to-door have yielded positive results with greater involvement from residents. Residents have also spread the initiative by word-of –mouth. THE FNHW’s CAPACITY a) We have a complement of 34 males serving on 15 patrol teams. Each team is committed to patrol 2 hours every 5 days. We need residents from each Cell to avail themselves to assist with manning these patrols. An additional 26 volunteers will reduce the minimum hours to 1 hour every 5 days. b) At present we only have one vehicle per patrol with a minimum of two personnel per vehicle. Patrol cars are equipped with two-way radios, patrol vests (optional) and torches (1500 candle light capacity). Some vehicles are equipped with stun-guns or personal weapons. c) We operate in conjunction with security agencies and have direct contact with these security vehicles which are alerted to any suspicious activity. d) We have also managed to liaise with the Crime Prevention Unit of the SAPS under the auspices of Inspector Els. His unit will respond to crime in progress within a time frame of approx. one minute, if contacted. e) Streets are divided into Cells, each with a Cell Leader to assist with coordinating our management plans. f) We have our own bank account for Cells to assist with initial operating cost. Donations are most welcome as all the costs are currently funded by the volunteers. g) The CNW has its own website (http://www.nhw.co.za/florida) which is available to all residents. You can communicate with us through this channel. Also to check what is happening in the area. It is incumbent on all residents to relay any suspicious activity via E-Mail florida@nhw.co.za . This will be followed up and passed on to CRIME INTELLIGENCE UNIT HEADED BY INSPECTOR Pienaar. You may remain anonymous. h) In addition to our website, we have two green notice boards at Waterloo supermarket. i) Residents also have direct access to our cell phone to report or ask for assistance from our patrols at night. Cell No. 078 278 4711 j) We have also been liaising with some security agencies for more pro-activeness.
