To whom it may concern.
I had to take my 3 jeer old daughter to Mediate today for a dental prosier, I was very upset when I found out my daughter was last on the theatre list, but was the youngest off all the children there. Al the other children was between the ages of 4 to my be even 6. When I addressed this with the ward Rn she said there is no set protocol, but will speak to the theatre sister. She came back to me to inform me she did ask the theatre Run if they can do my daughter sooner, And also told me I was late with my authorisation nr, and all the other children was there before my daughter, this made me feel that my daughter was punished for something that was not her fault. This was the first time that I jeer that, first come first surf apply to theatre with children. According to my Knowledge we start with the youngest group, as they do not understand way they are not allowed to eat and drink. My daughter had to stay without food and water for 14hrs.This I feel is inhuman.
The staff at medgate was aware that I can only get my authorisation number today, due to the fact that Bonita’s refused to give me authorisation before today. And I handed the authorisation to the staff just after 8; 00am
I feel if the staff at medgate could have phoned me and told me my daughter can have something @ 4 to drink. Or that 'first come first surf' applied, I would have come in before 6:30.
Nursing use to have empathy and tlc. Today made me feel that the staff did not care.
I feel that medgate must have a set protocol, for the sake of the patient and the staff.
